Hi, there!
First off, let me just say, wow! This is an amazing app. It truly is the sort of thing I have been waiting for on the iPad.
I just downloaded it an hour or so ago, and i've been playing with it a bit, and have a couple suggestions. First is the "remove color" function could really use some fine tuning. I happen to have created a number of characters using Brushes and had rendered them out with solid blue or green backgrounds for a client who used chroma-key technology to remove the backgrounds and get alpha channels. I imported one of these characters into PhotoPuppet as a new puppet and tried to pull the background out. The results were a little disappointing. There was a halo around the image, and there were a bunch of little spots in the area that had been solid blue or green, giving me a threshold control would probably let me dial that right out. (A matte choker would be really welcome, too.)
Second, the manual cut-out tool is really wonky to use. It's hard to get the cutout in one fell swoop, and there doesn't seem to be a way to go back and add to the cutout. Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but it's a pretty tough tool to use. You might consider implementing a painted mask tool similar to the quick mask feature in Photoshop, or to the iPhone app "Juxtaposer." This way you can paint the mask, add to the mask, subtract from the mask, and don't have to worry about getting it right the first try.
Third, I couldn't figure out how to delete a puppet if I decided that I didn't want it on the stage. Maybe I'm missing something, and I could swear I saw you delete a puppet (or a layer) in the tutorials, but I couldn't figure it out....
Fourth, I love how the animation is a little shaky and looks hand-drawn in that way, but it would also be really nice if there were some way to smooth the animation, too. Maybe a sensitivity slider or something. And maybe a means of lessening how sensitive the scale is; it's really hard to just rotate an object without accidentally scaling it, too.
I hope you don't take these suggestions as criticisms. This app is truly amazing, and even without any changes, it's already very usable, and a heck of a lot of fun.
When I get back on my desktop computer, I'll write a full review on the app store. As of now, all I was able to do is give it five stars, every one of which it earned!
Thanks!
